Is the summer romance something reserved for 20-somethings only? I don't think so, in fact, I know that it isn't. You see, I am the product of a summer romance!
Time - summer of 1956.
Place - the lovely seaside resort of Travemünde in northern Germany.
Characters - my parents, both in their early 30's, from Stockholm, Sweden.
My father was in Germany to receive some medical treatment for a war-time spinal injury. He decided to stay in Travemünde for some R & R before returning to Sweden. I am so glad that he did!
My mother was on holiday with a girlfriend, "escaping men". Her relationship had just broken up and she had had "enough of men". Fateful words...! They met and fell - hook, line and sinker - deeply in love.
They were together until my mother died 30 years later.
